I am a portrait and figurative artist based in South Manchester. My early inspiration came from the Middle East, where I lived for 4 years and in particular the city of Dubai in the UAE, which is diverse in both culture and the eclectic mix of nationalities residing there. I found myself fascinated by the harmonious way people lived together bearing in mind the ongoing fears created by fundamentalism and other troubles in the world.
My paintings are a reflection on everyday life, attempting to capture individuals or groups of people in their interaction with others. Buildings, towns and houses are also a focus especially those which are unusual in appearance or quirky. My work attempts to capture inspiring situations, visions that reflect eccentric, humoristic elements. By taking daily life as subject matter while commenting on the everyday aesthetic of middle class values, I want the viewer to become part of the art as a kind of added component.
Art is entertainment: to be able to touch the work, as well as to interact or share in the experience I am attempting to portray with the work is important.
I favour painting in oil as a Fine Art medium but also like to use Watercolour for its subtle outcome. I like to experiment with Lino Printing which I use in Mixed Media pieces.
I have previously painted animals, in particular dogs and horses and have exhibited at the Dubai International Horse Fair, World Trade Centre, Dubai and the Members Exhibition at The Dubai International Arts Centre, Dubai.
